Swallowtail Butterflies on Vellum

Sometimes I make a card and just fall in love with it; this would be one of those!  I first made the darker purple Thank You card, shown here:

However, I stamped the En Francais background in the Elegant Eggplant and I thought it was a bit dark, and I adored the color combination that inspired this card to begin with from Deliaspaperworld's Blog....so I tried again:

 And then my daughter wanted a pink one:

  And I wanted to try one with the lighter En Francais stamped background:

First, I stamped the Swallowtail stamp in Versamark onto Vellum Paper, along with several smaller butterflies from Papillion Potpourri.  Then, I heat embossed them with white embossing powder.  I also stamped and embossed several smaller butterflies on a separate piece of vellum.  I punched those out with the Btty Butterfly Punch.  

On the back of the vellum, I used sponge daubers to color in the butterflies.  It actually was fairly forgiving, so exactness was not necessarily required!  I used the darker colors of Elegant Eggplant, Not Quite Navy, and Rose Red because they are lightened through the vellum paper.  

I stamped the card base with En Francais, using the stamp-off technique to make it even lighter.  

I added the smaller butterflies with dimensionals, and topped them all off with jewels.  The final part of the card was adding the So Saffron ribbon.

Happy Thanksgiving with Gently Falling

Wisteria Wonder, Snowflake Soiree and Tinted Glimmer

Here is another example of coloring glimmer paper.  In the left card, I did not color the silver paper.  In the right example, I used a sponge dauber and Elegant Eggplant ink to give the glitter a slight purple tint.

Stamping on the Embossing Folder

Do you see how the little butterflies look like they are behind the flowers?  It is actually quite simple to achieve this look.  Your first step is to stamp directly onto the embossing folder, on the flat side, not the raised part.  Carefully close the folder around your paper and run through the Big Shot.  Ta-da!  The butterflies (or whatever you stamp) are now behind the embossed image.

I thought this card needed a little more color, so I used sponge daubers to add ink to the flowers and stems.  Then I added some pearls to the centers of the flowers.

Emboss Resist Hello Friend

My dear cousin in NJ wanted me to make her some cards and she picked several from my blog.  However, for this card, I did not have the stamp set, so I substituted the flowers from the My Friend stamp set.  Hope she likes it!

Does anyone else want to order cards?  I will take orders!  :)

Elephant Birthday

A special little guy is celebrating his first birthday this month.  In his honor, I made this punch art elephant just for him.  Here's how:

Use the 1 3/8 inch circle punch for his head and again for his trunk.  I did trim a bit of his trunk with paper snips.  Use the retired butterfly punch for his ears, the 1 3/4 inch circle punch for his body, the 3/4 inch circle punch for his legs and the balloon, the bird builder punch for his tail (the branch part only), the owl builder punch for the balloon bottom (the owl's feet), the scallop edge punch for the grass (trim out a tiny triangle in each scallop to make the blades of grass), and the scallop circle for the clouds (use a sponge dauber to create).  I inked the edges of the elephant with Basic Gray, and the balloon with Marina Mist.  I stamped the sentiment from Up, Up, and Away using Marina Mist and punched out using the Curly Label punch.  Add some baker's twine for the balloon and put it all together for a one-of a kind birthday card.

Mixed Bunch Embossed, Stamped and Punched

Also at the workshop this past weekend, I demonstrated how to make this card.  I used the Mixed Bunch stamp set to stamp the flower in Daffodil Delight.  Next, I used the coordinating punch to punch two flowers out of Whisper White.  I ran them through the Big Shot using the Houndstooth embossing folder, then inked the edges using a sponge dauber.  Finally, I stacked the flower together using some dimensionals, added an Old Olive button with glue dots and stamped "Happy Birthday" from the Sale-a-bration set Elementary Elegance.  I will also be teaching fellow teachers in the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher sorority how to make this card this coming weekend.  I can't wait to share stamping with some new people!

Flower Happy Birthday

I really like how this card turned out.  I colored the center of a paper flower with a sponge dauber and So Saffron ink.  I used dimensionals and a punched circle of Baja Breeze, along with a stamped and punched button image from the Button, Button stamp set.  The shine comes from the Crystal Effects I added to the top.  The 'happy birthday' is from the Teeny Tiny Wishes set, and the polka dot frame is from the Four Frames stamp set. 

Paper Daisies

I love the color combination on this card.  The background is Wild Wasabi, embossed with the Big Shot.  The tag is punched with the Decorative Label Punch, after being stamped with one of the tags from the Four Frames stamp set.  The middle was stamped with "welcome, baby," from the Petite Pairs stamp set in Daffodil Delight.  I used the sponge daubers on the paper daisies with Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight inks. 

Sweet Watermelon Slices

This cool summer card showcases another use for the Petite Pennants Builder Punch.  First I created a mask using a small sheet of vellum.  Then I punched the slices from Whisper White cardstock.  Using the mask and Certainly Celery and Melon Mambo inks with sponge daubers, I added the color.  The seeds were punched using the Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch and then made glossy using Crystal Effects.  The border was created with the new Lace Ribbon Border Punch.
